Description: |
"Dated January 18, 1854. Sealed June 2, 1854... The inventor constructs a framework of wood or metal, and in the top part of it makes a vertical slot in which the tool-carrier slides, having given to it an up and down as well as a cross motion, for the purpose of opening or contracting the space requisite for the introduction of the various sizes of material to be operated upon, which is placed on a rest, the tool being then pressed down by a treddle or other convenient means. The action of the tool is regulated by a rack and pinion, on the end of which is fixed a spring to make the tool react of itself." |
