Description: |
Note: Early English patents (pre 1916) were numbered by the year and started at patent #1 at the start of each year in January. The patent # used in DATAMP represents the year of issue of the application and the patent #. This patent is #27,441 of the year 1903.
Abstract:
An improvement in the lubricator for motive-power engines, described in Specification No. 5749, A.D. 1902, consists i n the employment of ratchet gearing for reducing or varying the speed of the lubricator shaft to suit engines of various speeds. The worm-wheel c, driven continuously by the worm d, is mounted loosely on the shaft a, from which the pumps in the lubricator tank b are actuated. The worm - wheel carries the pawl i, engaging the ratchet-wheel h on the shaft a. The teeth of the ratchet-wheel are covered through part of a revolution by two discs o, p, each having a portion of its periphery q, Fig. 4, cut away. The disc p is fixed to the bracket s, and the disc o is adjusted and clamped by the stud u, engaging the slot t, to expose the desired number of teeth of the ratchet-wheel. The pawl i is lifted out of engagement with the teeth except at the part q. The spring k engaging the pawl i is adjusted by the set-screw m. The hand-wheel w enables the lubricator to be flushed while working. |
