Description:
Another very early bandsaw patent (see also patent 9,303X) that preceded the availability of practical blades.

This intriguing design is perhaps not as crazy as it first looks. Why use a C-frame design if the saw will just be used for resawing? Only an inline frame like this could tension such a wide blade sufficiently to get a straight cut. But why make the blade that wide? Hmmm... Perhaps the wide blade was an attempt to overcome metallurgical problems with the steel available at that time. If so, it was unsuccessful, because commercial viability of bandsaws awaited improvements in steel that did not arrive until the 1860s.
