Description: |
Inventors Smedley and Allen are described as wood worker and machinist, respectively."The object of this invention is to design a planing machine with a feed roller made of such material and located in such a position that it will act upon and feed the board being planed with the least possible pressure, and in such a manner that an unknown surface may be plane true without twisting or in any way straining the board, which may be curved if desired; and it consists, essentially, in locating a rubber feed roller immediately over the cutting knives of the cylinder, and providing such a spring for the said roller, and driving it by such gearing that the angle of the roller will be altered by, or to accomodate any unevenness in the surface being planed." |
