Description: |
The 1870s were a banner decade for marking gage head locking
patents-- here's another, only this time it's a metal gage. This
one uses a tapered split collar on the head, which can be
tightened by advancing a locknut to compress the sides of the
collar.
This doesn't seem like that great an idea to me. I would think
that it would be very difficult to keep the bar from slipping out
of position while tightening the head. Once the arm was locked,
though, it would certainly hold its position securely!
