Wyson & Miles v. Oakley et. al.
Vintage Machinery entry for Wysong & Miles Co.
Description:
Horizontal loose-belt sander for irregular flat objects.

The case of Wysong & Miles Co. v. Oakley et. al. (where the "et. al." consisted of D. S. Oakley, E. N. Jansen and Norton L. Upson) involved this patent, and the end result was that the patent was declared void for "lack of patentable invention". According to testimony, although Wysong & Miles licensed the patent in 1907 they never actually made use of the design and it would never have worked. Apparently not even the inventor ever actually built a sanding machine based on this patent. Rather, after representatives of Wysong & Miles visited the plant of Oakley & Jansen Co. and learned about the sanding machines they were making, they bought the Welker patent and used it as the basis for a lawsuit.
