The shank of the movable jaw is rectangular, with threads on the two short faces. The adjusting nut is retained on the body of the wrench by lips that fit a groove in the adjusting nut. The jaw on the main shank has a "tooth", and the face of the adjustable jaw is a hardened toothed plate dovetailed into the jaw.
A May, 1890 IRON AGE item announced the wrench to the hardware trade.
