Description: |
The tool looks like a pliers, but the pivot is arranged so that closing the handles expands the jaws. The jaw tips are notched to hold the folded wire ends of wire straps designed to work with this tool. The corresponding strap in this patent is a single strand which is twisted to tighten it. The strap is described in patent no. 197,716.
The Caldwell hose clamps and Caldwell Hose Strap Pliers that were a staple of hardware catalogs for many decades in the late 19th and early 20th Centuries correspond to Caldwell's April 1877 patent (no. 191,026) and Samuel Adlam, Jr.'s hose clamp patent (no. 190,728) that was assigned to Caldwell. |
