Description: |
The quick-adjust action uses multiple toothed "levers" that engage a rack on the sliding jaw. Each of the "levers" has a slightly different length from the common pivot point. The movable jaw is pulled into engagement by the interior tension spring, and the tooth on the lever closest to the final position engages the rack tooth to hold the adjustment.
A "monkey wrench" version of GORDON AUTOMATIC outwardly resembling this patent and an adjustable open end wrench version (see patent no. 1,501,903) were advertised in a full-page ad in Sept. 27, 1923 AMERICAN MACHINIST. A February 1923 write-up in MACHINERY also include a pipe wrench version (see pat. no. 1,618,820) not included in the September 1923 piece. |
