Description: |
| The patent addresses the shape of the head and shank of a monkey wrench in relation to strength and durability. The reverse jog bar noted in the patent is a prominent feature of Coes wrenches dating to the 3rd quarter of the 19th Century. The pin fastening the ferrule to the wrench bar was one means to overcome a weakness of the original Coes patent where the ferrule was not firmly attached to the wrench bar.
This patent in conjunction with Taft's June 26, 1866 patent no. 55,932 was featured in early 1870s L. Coes & Co. wrench advertisements.
Aspects of this patent were incorporated into a broader 1870 English patent (GB-187000904) which also has features from other Taft wrench patents. |
