Description: |
This patent covers a standard inclinometer or pendulum level, with a level vial to check for true level, and a micrometer adjustment of the inclinometer needle to ensure an accurate reading.
This level was not previously known to have been manufactured, but in 2023 an example of this level was included in a Martin Donnelly auction. The example, shown here, is marked, "MADE BY C.COLE & BRO. / TARRYTOWN, N.Y / PAT. APPLIED FOR". From the auction description: "As was the case with many early inventions, the pendulum mechanism on this level differs substantially from the patent diagram, but the outline of the inset brass plate is identical to the patent drawings." |
