Description:
This patent is notable because it is the first appearance of a weighted lever used to tension a bandsaw blade. This type of mechanism was considered the best way to tension blades until the development of coil springs that could maintain their stiffness over time. The weighted lever mechanism continued to be used on high end machines for many years after it had disappeared from smaller bandsaws.
