This tool is perhaps the stupidest marking gage ever patented. It
features eighteen retractable fixed points (!), designed such
that you can advance two to get a fixed width mortise in a wide
variety of sizes.
This tool was so complex that it features a table engraved into a
metal plate on the arm, detailing which combinations of screws
result in specific mortise widths. I can't imagine anyone
thinking this was a good idea.
