Description: |
| ABSTRACT: "A tool handle in which may be inserted a spanner, screw-driver, screw-tap or drill comprises a handle shaft, a tool-carrying head pivoted to the shaft and a reversible ratchet mechanism mounted in the head. The head consists of two parts (c), (d) connected by a bolt (g) so as to be rotatable relatively to one another, the part (d) having a polygonal opening (r) in which the tool is secured by a spring- pressed ball (s) engaging a notch in the opening. The ratchet mechanism is mounted between the parts (c), (d) and consists of four pins (i), slidable in recesses in the part (d) and pressed upwardly by springs (k) so as to engage in recesses (o) in the part (c). A diametrically-slotted ring (h) is rotatable between the parts (c), (d) so that the slot allows only one diametral pair of pins to engage with the recesses in the member (c) at a time. The upper ends of the pins are so chamfered that one pair allows relative rotation of the parts (c), (d) in one direction and, the other pair in the opposite direction. The handle (a) can be secured in different inclined positions relative to the head portion by a spring-controlled bolt (e), the end of which engages with one of a series of recesses (f) in the member (c). In the arrangement shown in Fig. 3, a ratchet mechanism is also provided in the head (d') on the bent tool or extension shown."
