The handle includes a clamping action for a sliding jaw with a wedge-shaped base; see also GB-187900369 for a similar adjustment means. Ron Geesin's THE ADJUSTABLE SPANNER notes THE HOLDFAST adjustable spanner corresponding to these patents and produced by Bown's company.
