Description:

Improvements to patent GB-181,604,057.

According to "Abridgements of Specifications Relating to the Steam Engine", "Instead of a steam vessel fastened at the end of a hollow beam, a circular hollow tube is substituted, which has an internal stop or abutment valve at its highest point, and a quantity of quicksilver enclosed. Steam admitted through a cock, turned by a tappet moved by the axle, admitted on one side of the stop, and between it and the quicksilver, causes the tube to oscillate through part of the circle towards one side; the steam cock is then reversed, which admits the steam on the other side of the stop, which, causing the tube to move through the opposite portion of the circle, causes a pendulum movement." A second improvement converts the oscillating engine to a rotary engine.
