Description: |
| The invention is a greatly improved pump-action shotgun. Loading and ejection are from the under-side of the breech which kept the ejected shells out of the line of sight of the shooter. The mechanism allowed the shooter to hold down the trigger and fire automatically as the ejection mechanism was cycled. This invention was produced as the Winchester Model 1887, and then as the Model 1897 which was designed to accommodate the new and more powerful smokeless gunpowder. The 1897, which was in production for over 60 years, remains one of the most popular shotguns ever made. |
