Description:
The patent claims the combination of "clevis" and strap to be used as a non-marring wrench when combined with any cam-ended lever, although the drawings and specifications are set in terms of common (i.e. "Stillson") pipe wrench. The drawings show supplemental plates which would act to convert toothed pipe jaws to smooth jaws, but those are not included in the claims.

In a letter in a plumbers' union journal, Hand describes this as used on 14 inch "Stillson" pipe wrench, and his ad ran in several monthly issues of that journal.
