Description: |
This machine was originally patented in Great Britain, GB-188,805,080. See also Beach's patent 447,225, also for a box-making machine. Both Beach's and Knowlton's patents were intended for boxes made of paper. The box-making machinery from the firm of Knowlton & Beach, Rochester, NY, followed Knowlton's patent and not Beach's patent. This fact was stated in the lawsuit Fred H. Beach v. Clarence W. Hobbs et. al., which went to the US Supreme Court in October 1900. Beach sued Clarence Hobbs and Richard Sugden who were doing business as Hobbs Mfg. Co., Worcester, Mass. |
