Description:
"My improvement is a shingle-machine constructed on a new plan, so far as the feed and set works are concerned. The feed-works are arranged so as to feed slow when feeding the bolt to the saw, and fast when carrying the bolt back, after the shingle is sawed off."

A genealogical posting on rootsweb.com indicates that the inventor was 41 years old in 1880, was married to Mary (nee Newton), was a machinist, and was born in Ohio. They had a 13 year old daughter, Celeste E. (born in Wisconsin), an 8 year old daughter, Grace (also born in Wisconsin), and a 6 year old daughter, Ada (born in Minnesota).
