Description: |
| The device inserts a "stretched rubber band" into a tire puncture. When the device is removed, rubber cement is applied to keep the rubber patch in place. The specifications describe the tool as an improvement on similar devices in use, enabling easy use with one hand.
Known examples are marked URICH PAT 1919 / OTHERS PEND. Corresponding Canadian patent CA-193,003 Fig. 4 shows the pivoting hook for the band as it appears in the tool as produced.
A 1922 trade journal item notes STEVENS & Co. (New York) had assumed national distribution of OKEH and URICH tire repair tools made by B. Urich Co. of Milwaukee.
Subsequent patent 1,519,227 refines details of the construction. |
