"I claim the combination of the winding cords or chains, retarders or discs, hub, and spindle, arranged and operating in the manner set forth. I also claim operating the governor valve of steam and other engines, by the twisting and untwisting of a flexible cord or chain, or equivalent thereto, attached to revolving retarders, and to the driving pulley placed above it, and detached from the spindle. I likewise claim constructing the clasp with shoulders upon each part, which fit against corresponding shoulders upon its opposite part, and prevent the opening of the clasp, when they are united by the screw, substantially as set forth." |
