Description: |
An example of this crane, marked with the patent number, existed at the old Detroit Dry Dock Company as late as 2002 but by that time the crane was a twisted ruin. Before that, the crane must have been heavily used, first by steam-engine builders Dry Dock Works and then by Detroit Edison, with a span of 37 feet over the length of the building and a height of up to 36 feet. The Northern Engineering crane was a 40-ton model that replaced a 20-ton electric crane made by Shaw Electric Co. |
