| It is believed that the patents granted date of 23 Jul., 1861 listed in the annual report is incorrect. It should be 23 Nov., 1861. This would put the patent number in the proper numerical order.
This patent was issued by the Confederate States of America at Richmond, VA, during the U.S. Civil War. Very little is known about these patents as the copies in Richmond were destroyed near the end of the war. Only about 10 original patent documents (i.e., those issued to the patentee) have been found. |
