Description: |
Box end wrench formed of bent strap metal, reinforced at the juncture of the handle and "socket."
Known examples produced as a double box-end automotive specialty wrench stamped WALDEN WORCESTER 4564 MADE IN U.S.A. PAT MAY 1909. It is shown among the tools on a WALDEN-WORCESTER No. 78 "Ford Tools" sales display board ca. 1916, and a chart of wrenches for FORD repair in a 1918 Dykes Automobile ... Encyclopedia. The "loop" easily deformed if it did not exactly match the exterior dimensions of the nut it was used on.
No. 4564 was replaced by No. 4564-2 with one ratcheting 11/16 inch hex box end, and one 15/16 inch fixed box end. It appears in a June 1918 writeup of Walden-Worcester special wrenches for FORD cars. |
