Description: |
| The divided jaws in this hog-ring pliers are to install two rings at once while avoiding the bony ridge at the center of the hog's snout. The specifications note the split jaw could also facilitate the tool's use for pulling nails.
Known example marked PAT. SEP. 8 74 does not have the divided jaw, but has solid relatively wide jaws with large divergent grooves on the outer edges and a third smaller groove down the center.
An 1891 hardware catalog description says, "Two rings can be inserted and closed in one operation. This is also a center groove made smaller for Pig Rings."
