Description: |
The jaws are hinged at the back, and the frame has a wedge divider between the jaws to spread them as they slide further out.
Corresponding Canadian patent no. CA-36,254 was granted April 1, 1891.
The example pictured is from a Martin J. Donnelly auction; wood and steel handled specimens are known. Manufacturer attribution from Ken Cope's "American Wrench Makers 1830-1930."
An unmarked "T" handle basin wrench combines the adjustment means from this patent with the jaw form from Buzzell's Oct. 10, 1876 basin wrench patent (no. 183,901). |
