Description:

This is the patent for the common wood-screw. The innovation is the threaded portion that is straight for most of its length, combined with the tapered tip; previous screws either were straight for the entire threaded portion, or tapered for the entire threaded portion. Patent 9,688 covers Sloan's machine to make these screws.
