Carl Matthews Vintage Machinery entry for Rock Island Manufacturing Co.
|
Description: |
Jaw opening is adjusted by use of a pin through the base the corresponds to the indexed holes on the rod. This vise was manufactured both in a version that closely matches the patent drawing, and another version that incorporated a drill press. Known examples of both versions are only marked with the patent date. The inventor co-founded Rock Island Manufacturing Co. in 1906 and was its president when this patent was issued. The company survived until 1930 so it seems safe to assume that they manufactured this vise. |
