Description: |
This is a lever-actuated butt hinge mortiser, which attaches to the door frame. Once locked in place, moving the lever would advance a pair of cutting blades to form the mortise.
The original version of this tool was produced by the Waller Tool Company of Chicago (not LA, as stated in the claims-- perhaps LA was the business office and Chicago was manufacturing). Tools produced by Waller are marked with the company name and "Patent Applied For".
Sometime later the production shifted to Stanley, who produced a variant of this tool from 1930-1941 as their #281 Hinge Mortiser. It is not clear whether Stanley ever used this particular design, or whether their offerings were all based on the 1930 improvement to this patent (1,766,364) |
