Description: |
| Entry based on "Abridgment;" a LUCAS "ROYAL" spanner matching the design appears in an 1894 London hardware dealer's ad. The LUCAS article in Ron Geesin's THE ADJUSTABLE SPANNER notes the patent, and no known examples.
The optional screwdriver is on the end of the "shank" of the movable jaw. The patented claims include the "handle offset" holding the adjusting worm, and details of the construction of the handle.
Note: British patents (pre 1916) were numbered by the year, starting at patent #1 each January. The patent # used in DATAMP represents the year of registration and the patent #, with "leading zeros" interposed to make the number total nine digits. This patent is #5,629 of the year 1891. |
