Description: |
The invention is a perforated metal plate for joining construction lumber, especially for roof trusses. The inventor was a Miami civil engineer who was inspired by the tendency of hurricanes and other high winds to pull roofs off of stick-built houses. He was involved in establishing the first building codes for South Florida, and this likely helped inspire this invention. See also patent 2,885,749, which was awarded later but was applied for earlier, in 1955. In 1956 Jureit established Gang-Nails, Inc., which changed its name in 1961 to Automated Building Components, Inc. Under either name, this invention was spectacularly successful, not only making new houses safer but enabling larger houses with more open floor plans. |
