Article on the development of hardness testing
Description:
This is the original patent for the Rockwell hardness tester which is used to test the hardness of various materials, especially metals. Co-inventor Stanley Rockwell would work with Charles H. Wilson of instrument-making firm Wilson-Maeulen Co. to further refine and commercialize this invention. Stanley Rockwell would win a lifetime achievement award from ASM International (formerly the American Society for Metals).

Based on previous patents, it appears that co-inventor Hugh M. Rockwell (who apparently was not related to Stanley P. Rockwell) had worked for New Departure Bearing Co., and for Standard Steel & Bearings, Inc.
