Jeff Joslin Vintage Machinery entry for Letson & Burpee, Ltd.
|
Description: |
The invention is an elastomeric coupling between a log feed roll and its shaft. The idea itself was not new and the real innovation is the shape of the annular insert which is claimed to sufficiently absorb heavy impacts while having sufficient shear strength and torsional rigidity. Providing such a shock absorber prevents bearing damage and allows the roll-case frame to be welded directly to the floor which avoids misalignment problems. |
