Description: |
This patent applies steam power to portable drilling operations, such "as drilling holes in the sides of ships, or in heavy machinery... or in repairing locomotives..." This patent was cited in litigation around the later patent 269,120, which is now considered to be the first practical portable drilling machine for heavy use such as larger holes in building or repairing ships and locomotives. The courts found that this Fullam patent was never brought to practical use and that it did not allow enough power to be applied to the mandrel to turn a larger diameter bit. |
