Stan Schulz (Some 1861 British patents) - look inside for "Weston"
|
Description: |
The specifications describe an adjustment by helical worm or screw on the face of a rotating "button" within the movable jaw that engages rack teeth on the shank. The drawings show different options. The text notes the adjusting structure could be on the "jaw side" or "back side" of the movable jaw.
Ron Geesin's THE ADJUSTABLE SPANNER connects this patent to a WESTON'S PATENT ENGLAND FRANCE adjustable spanner produced by Richard Timmins & Sons, Birmingham, England. Versions with the adjusting worm on the "jaw side" and "back side" are known.
Note: British patents prior to 1916 were issued with a new number sequence starting each year. For ease in searching and sorting, current practice is to list these patents by year and number, with interposed zeros if necessary to make the number reach nine digits. This is British patent 2583 of 1861.
The full patent including the drawings (original 1862 printing is a bound volume in a German museum library) can be found in the "Google digitized book" noted as a link. |
