Description: |
This thread form has rounded crest and root to accommodate the fact that taps and dies with the normal sharp crest and root wear rapidly there and no longer fit properly. The inventor is much better known for his "Higbee thread" or "Higbee cut", as it is now known, which involves removing the first 270 degrees, more or less, of the start of the thread and then shaping the front face of the thread tangent to the minor diameter, all to make the thread much easier to start; see patent 447,775. |
