Description: |
The patentee was granted over 50 patents in his lifetime. They were used by a variety of companies. At about the same time he received this jigsaw patent, he was also granted patents for powered metal shears, both stationary and handheld. These were manufactured by Unishear, Inc., which was subsequently acquired by The Stanley Works. We do not know if The Stanley Works, or anyone else, manufactured this jigsaw. In the patent, the inventor says that so far as he is aware, the only wood-cutting handheld power saws available at the time were circular saws; the "Cutawl" jigsaw had been patented in 1924 and was being manufactured and sold for the cutting of fabric (see patent 1,492,554), but Ungar seems to have been the first to patent a handheld power jigsaw that was expressly for cutting wood. |
