From the 1886 book, "History of Camden County, New Jersey", by George R. Prowell: "...after another set of buildings were put up, on the opposite side of the stream, for foundry purposes, which were carried on under the superintendence of Thomas Loring, of Troy, N.Y. Here butt-hinges were also made. In 1852 this building was destroyed by fire and a part of the building now on that site was erected it its stead. In October, 1860, Stephen Bateman became the owner of the property..."
