Description: |
This ball-bearing construction compresses the outer race, or expands the inner race, after the balls have been put in place so that the balls are permanently captured in the raceway. This construction is clever but requires that one race be quite soft, which compromises longevity. As well, the compressed or expanded race will not be as round as a race that has been precision ground. An undated catalog from Wallace Supplies Mfg. Co. of Chicago features "Reed type" ball bearings with this patent date. |
