Description: |
A uniflow engine with a pair of cylinders working on opposite cranks has separate admission valves operated by cams on adjacent shafts driven by toothed gearing. The cams are simultaneously engaged by valve-operating riders, the valve actions resulting from the combined actions of the cams. The cams on one shaft opens the valves; the cams on the other shaft controlled by a centrifugal governor determine the closing movements. A gear wheel 9 on the crank-shaft engages a wheel 11 on a vertical shaft 12 provided with a wheel 13 engaging a wheel 14 driving a cam shaft 15 with cams 16. A shaft 20 carrying closing-cams 21 is driven by spiral gearing from a governor-controlled sleeve 17 on the shaft 12. A support 22 on the shaft 12 has arms 23 carrying the weights of the governor which are connected to the sleeve 17 by arms 26 and links 27. The arms 26 engage a roller 28 mounted on a crosshead 29 connected by rods sliding through the support 22 to a head 31 operating through a ball bearing 32 against an adjustable spring-pressed base 33. The cams 16, 21 operate through rollers riders 38 connected to spring-pressed rods 41 sliding in sleeves 42 and operating the valves. |
