Vintage Machinery entry for Union Embossing Machine Co.
Description:
"In the production of embossed woodwork it has heretofore been found impractical to closely imitate carved effects because of the impossibility from a practical standpoint of producing deep depressions in the surface. This failure has been due to the fact that when an embossing-die was provided with extremely high cutting-points these points when sinking into the wood would cause the wood to split longitudinally. The object of my present invention is to produce means, either formed integrally with or operating automatically in conjunction with a cutting and embossing die, by which the material operated upon will be automatically transversely compressed and prevented from splitting longitudinally during the time of operation."
