According to "Abridgements of Specifications Relating to the Steam Engine": "Rotary engine. The 'piston chamber' is formed of the space between an outer and inner concentric cylinder or drum. The hollow axle has two channels, one leading from the boiler into the piston chamber, another another from the piston chamber into the condenser. The heavy piston is furnished with two 'guide wheels,' and two 'lever plates' are hinged upon the circumference of the inner drum, so as to fall back into grooves, or recesses, in its surface when passing the 'piston.' The hollow axle is prolonged to receive the mechanism that moves the valve gear and condenser pumps. As in similar forms, the steam admitted between the piston and a slide drives the latter before it..." |
