Description: |
This patent is the genesis of the cardiac pacemaker. The sinus node of the heart is responsible for generating the periodic electrochemical signals that control the beating of the heart; the sinus node was sometimes called, at the time, the "pacemaker", and that name was also given to the electronic device invented by Greatbatch. Greatbatch Enterprises remains active in pacemaker research and development, and it also manufacturers pacemaker components, especially batteries. |
