Description: |
A fascinating little butt gage with several interesting features.
The big new feature here is to use a center marking point for the lock mortise, to help in positioning the drill. It uses the same basic idea as the much earlier Kenny's patent (98,504 - 1/4/1870), with left- and right-handed threads on the main rod. Unlike the Kenny's gage, however, this one uses a very interesting rack and pinion adjustment method, with a separate locking screw.
This feature supposedly offered greater precision in the adjustment, but I don't know if that would overcome its inherent fragility. It is certainly a neat mechanism, though! |
