| Description: | | A cam in the movable jaw forces a toothed wedge against rack teeth on the shank to hold the adjustment. The motion of the cam also slightly advances the movable jaw face. A couple of variant forms for the cam and wedge are shown and described, and the use of a spring to retract the toothed wedge when the cam pressure is released is also described.
The handle of the cam can be adjusted in relation to angle of the cam.
A wrench with indistinct markings, but corresponding to the wood-handled version shown in the drawings, is known. Formation of the Brown Wrench Co. at Ronceverte, WV. was noted in the Febr. 24, 1910 IRON TRADE REVIEW.
Brown received patent no. 1,455,423 for a simplified form of this wrench on May 15, 1923. | |
