Stan Schulz LEVY PIPE WRENCH from Feb. 2, 1905 IRON AGE (FLICKR)
|
Description: |
Hook jaw "self-adjust" with a spring to keep the hook jaw in "normal open" position. The patent drawing shows a coiled spring connecting the pivot bolt and swinging jaw. The wrench as produced has a projection on the back of the handle, with a secondary link to the swinging jaw and a compression spring which keeps the jaw "normally closed".
An early 1905 "new product announcement" listed a Chicago distributor, and pictured an example as produced; a known example has very small lettering that suggests Levy was the manufacturer.
The corresponding British patent is GB-190413621 (no. 13,621 of 1904). |
