Description:
The drawing shows a double socket tuning hammer; the patented feature is the construction of the handle and its provisions for extending the length. A steel shaft is threaded to receive "standard" wrench sockets used on tuning hammers. This steel shaft holding the sockets has a longitudinal slot; the interior structure of the handle has a corresponding spline. The interior structure of the handle includes a steel tube with tapered threads and cut to form fingers. A nut on these threads provides clamping pressure to hold the shaft firmly.

A 1918 article about the Mueller Patent Improved Extension Tuning Hammer notes the tool had been sold since 1891, with a series of improvements over time.
