Adds an automatic operating ratchet lock to the valve spring compressor corresponding to patent no. 1,330,542. Appears in 1920s catalogs as "Universal Type."
Patent no. 1,713,762 (applied for Febr. 20, 1925, granted May 21, 1929) adds a spring retaining "cage" to make the tool suitable for engines where the spring has to be removed before the valves can be worked on. Noted in patent no. 1,879,330.
