| The patent describes a mechanism that combines reciprocating motion, periodic progressive motion, and periodic "lifting" motion for a valve grinder. The "holder" for the valve incorporates a magnet or electromagnet.
Reissued. The patent was the subject of a lawsuit (Specialty Machine Company vs. Ashcroft Manufacturing Company ) in which one of the issues was the ability of a patent applicant to "revise" claims during the process of applying for a reissue. For the Ashscroft grinder, see pat. no. 963,986.
